A man and woman have admitted intending to pervert the course of justice following a road crash at Gosforth.

Gemma Armfield, 31, and Lyndon Mawson, 34, appeared at Carlisle Crown Court where they each admitted a charge of tending or intending to pervert the course of justice between March 10 and June 1 this year.

The offence was said to have been committed as police and an insurer were informed that Mawson was the driver of a vehicle which had been involved in a collision. In fact, Armfield was behind the wheel.

Armfield pleaded guilty to dangerous driving at Denton Park, Gosforth, on March 11 and using a vehicle without third party insurance.

In addition, Mawson admitted making a false representation to insurer Tesco, between March 10 and 13 and that he permitted the use of a Peugeot vehicle without insurance.

The case was adjourned by Judge Tony Lancaster. Background reports were requested, and Armfield and Mawson, both of Mill Hill, Cleator Moor, are due to be sentenced at the crown court on November 2.

In the meantime the pair were remanded on bail.
