FREE music, printmaking and even a drone flying school feature in a packed programme of events in Egremont this bank holiday weekend.

Florence Arts Centre, based at the old Florence Mine in Egremont, is holding an open day on Monday May 2.

Accompanying the current exhibition of work by Cumbria Printmakers, the mine is hosting a full-day workshop with tutors Jill Davis and Kevin O’Connor, which includes a chance to try your hand at screen-printing, monotype and mono-printing and create your own piece of artwork.

Drop-in sessions will also be available for those that wish to see the printmakers demonstrating techniques and offering the chance to print a bespoke image of the iconic Florence Mine on their own T-shirt, tote bag or other material.

Manchester-based digital arts collective Abandon Normal Devices will be joining in the action to give visitors the chance to fly their own drone, experiment with the technology and get to grips with the latest drone developments.

From the start of the day there is a roster of local musicians who will be playing live both inside and outside the building. At 4pm they will be opening up the studio for an open mic session where anyone can join in, play and sing.

Musicians on the day will include CFM’s Big Audition finalist Zoe Warren teams up with Lee Shackley, playing a variety of contemporary pop-rock covers and their own material, and Andrew Bates, drummer with several local bands, including Thirteen Stars, gives a masterclass.

The Florence Arts Centre open day will take place on Monday May 2, based at the old Florence Mine in Egremont. Places for events can be booked by contacting the venue in advance.
