A book giving an insight into Cumbrian railways in the 19th century has been unearthed.

The Whitehaven Junction and Whitehaven and Furness Junction Railway Rule Book 1857 is being made available to train enthusiasts.

Archivists at the Cumbrian Railway Association say they are delighted to announce they have acquired the document which casts a spotlight on the rules and regulations that employees of these railway companies were required to abide by.

It also gives an insight into the conditions under which they worked.

Association archivist Guy Wilson said: “This will appeal not only to those interested in these two companies but also rail enthusiasts and historians wishing to gain a further insight into how railways were run in the 19th century."

The book is available on PDF format on a compact disc, priced £5. Email sales@cumbrianrailways.org.uk
