A new self-contained nursery has opened its doors at Lamplugh CE School – welcoming children from the age of two.

The school, which sits between Rowrah and Kirkland just outside Frizington, has opened its doors to new visitors this term and celebrated with a summer fair yesterday. School administrator Georgia Hall said the nursery area, which has finally been opened after months of planning, is very well resourced and offers the young children a safe and exciting place in which to play happily and learn about the world and its environment. She said: “Parents of current pupils are delighted with the facilities and often comment on how much their children enjoy coming to the nursery.”

The school is inviting parents of children aged two and upwards to visit and look around the new facilities and meet the staff.

The other initiative for the school this term is the start of the LSA (Lamplugh School Association) coffee mornings, held every Friday throughout term time, up to the end of the school year in July.

The school is situated on the Coast to Coast cycle route and is passed by groups of cyclists each week from spring to summer. Since the coffee morning began, the LSA volunteers have met American students, (currently studying in London), a group from a women’s cycle club from Leicester as well as cyclists from Newcastle and Derbyshire.

Ms Hall said: “All have had great comments to make about the home-baked cakes, with some groups even ‘tweeting’ pictures to fellow cyclists. The coffee mornings are open to all members of the public so why not come along for an hour on a Friday morning and sample some of the fine home-made cakes and meet up for a chat?”
