A DEMENTIA carers support group will run in Whitehaven from July.

Based in Whitehaven library, the group - organised by Sheena Coutts and Josephine Clark - will listen and offer support on a range of issues.

It intends to bring the carer community and what it can offer together.

This will include informal opportunities to ask questions, carers assessments and emotional support. The group will also promote links to local resources.

Meetings start on Tuesday, July 5 and will take place every Tuesday between 1.30pm and 3.30pm at the library on Lowther Street, Whitehaven.

Dementia is caused when the brain is damaged by diseases, such as Alzheimer's disease or strokes. It can include memory loss and difficulties with thinking, problem-solving or language.

Around 850,000 people are believed to have dementia in the UK. For more information contact the organisers on 01946 68560.
