Concerned residents have set up a community group to tackle speeding in Moor Row.

Volunteers met with the village's PCSOs - Colette Harrison and Alan Willison - to discuss the issue of speeding, aggressive driving and congestion.

Officers monitoring Moor Row had found vehicles travelling at well over the 30mph limit, with some cars reaching speeds over 60mph.

"PCSO Harrison talked about the Speedwatch scheme, how it works, what is required and what training is given," said PCSO Willison.

"An authorised Police Traffic Officer has assessed the area for suitable monitoring locations and three have now been confirmed.

"Once the risk assessments are finalised, the group will have access to a community speed gun to monitor speeds in the area and promote speed awareness to drivers passing through."

The volunteers will be able to report prolific or regular speeding to the police. Any drivers confronting or abusing members of the group, when they are carrying out Speedwatch activities, will also be dealt with.

In recent years, groups have been created in Ennerdale Bridge, Hensingham and Keekle.

The Moor Row group, which has the backing of Egremont Town Council and Cumbria Constabulary, is looking for more volunteers and anyone with queries can contact PCSO Harrison on 101.
