MIDSUMMER madness saw Whitehaven pupils splattered their headteacher in coloured paint.
Mayfield School's Gillian Temple was drenched as part of the National Move Day by pupils dressed as mischievous elves and fairies.
This year's theme was Shakespeare's Midsummer Night's Dream with the school taking part in a variety of activities.
A spokesperson for Mayfield said the pupils "kidnapped" Mrs Temple and then covered her by popping paint-filled balloons over her head.
"The children loved the screams and laughed as the paint splattered her!'' she said.
In the afternoon, parents joined their children to take part in different activities before a parade around the Maypole and presentation of certificates.
Mrs Temple said: "I am pleased that MOVE at Mayfield School remains a high priority promoting mobility and movement in its widest sense.
"The sun shone and all the young people involved had a great fun filled day.''
And she added: "Thanks to all the staff who dressed up and encouraged all pupils to do their best. I am sure that their parents enjoyed the day and were very proud to share in the fun.''
