Celebrities have been showing their support for a West Cumbrian charity set up in memory of a brave 15-year-old.

Famous faces – including comedians Matt Lucas, Rob Brydon and Brendan O’Carrol, of Mrs Brown’s Boys, sportsmen Anthony Joshua, Phil Tufnall, Glenn Hoddle and TV presenters Carol Vorderman, Warwick Davis and Ross Kemp – have been photographed wearing the charity’s wristband which raises money in memory of Egremont’s Danica Maxwell.

Danica Maxwell Danica’s Dream Fund was set up by her parents, John and Allison, after their daughter died following a battle with three brain tumours in 2010.

The teenager, during her hospital stays, had discussed the idea of a charity to help children with cancer.

It supports families with basic, but essential, needs such as accommodation, house and car repairs to dream holidays and weekends away.

Organiser and supporter of the charity, Mark Andrews, sends out tweets to celebrities to ask them to wear the band.

“When they agree I get an address from them to send it to, and they either post a picture on Twitter or send them to me via email and we post them on social media to promote the charity,’’ he said.

The charity recently hit its £150,000 target which was announced at a balloon release released on the sixth anniversary of Danica’s death.

Other celebrities which have supported the charity are Gogglebox’s Scarlett Moffatt, footballer Ian Wright, singer Louisa Johnson, Ronan Keating and Paul Gascoigne.

Singer Owen Paul, who had a big hit in the 1980s with My Favourite Waste of Time, also wears Danica’s wristband while he is on tour.
