A massive housing development has been earmarked for Frizington.

Plans for 140 new homes on the site between Rheda Close and Rheda Park have been revealed.

Genesis Homes Cumbria wants to build the "high quality" houses, which will comprise a range of two to five-bedroom properties.

The Penrith-based company has lodged an outline planning application with Copeland Council.

The proposed development would include 112 houses for sale on the market and 28 affordable homes.

Julie Diamond, principal planner at WYG Planning, agents for the developer said: "Cumbria is a centre of nuclear excellence with a highly skilled workforce and consequently there is a strong demand for housing.

"At the present time, Copeland has a significant shortfall in meeting its housing targets, and therefore the applicant, Genesis Homes Cumbria, is pleased to present this high quality development to meet the needs of local residents and also attract new families to the area.

"The site was chosen as it offers a beautiful location for new homes in a sustainable location close to local services and within easy reach of the major local employment centres.

"The development will provide a broad mixture of house types to meet a range of requirements including large family homes, bungalows and affordable homes."

The development would be built on the greenfield site known as Rheda Park (North).

A new junction would be made on the B5294 road to access the estate. A children's play park may also be included in the plans.

The company said if the scheme were to go ahead, properties would be allocated between two and three parking spaces.

An ecological study submitted with the application revealed there was potential bat and red squirrel activity on the site.

But the company has put forward a number of recommendations including installing bat boxes on trees.
