The sun shone on Maryport as the annual blues festival rolled into town.

Thousands of people have already enjoyed performances from the likes of Andy Fairweather-Low, the Connie Lush Band, Kyla Brox, Secure Unit, 13 Stars, Jon Amor and Todd Sharpville - a last-minute replacement on the bill after scheduled headliner Wilko Johnson was forced to pull out.

Dozens of bands also had slots at several pubs and cafes across the town on the popular blues trail.

Joan Waugh, 82, of Maryport, has attended every Maryport Blues Festival since it began 19 years ago.

She was with her daughters Susan Graham and Denise Stables.

Joan said: "It's a great atmosphere and I love the music. It's a brilliant festival."

Her daughters joked: "She's the oldest rocker in town!"

Also attending the festival were Maryport's district nurses, who chose the event as a leaving do for one of their colleagues, Louise.

The festival continues tomorrow with acts including Howlin’ Mat, The Jar Family, Paul Lamb and the Kingsnakes, Henrik Freischlader, Matt Schofield, AWOL and Red Spider.

Participating as part of the blues trail are Maryport Navy Club, Sailor’s Return, Golden Lion, Phoenix Tap, Annabel’s Cafe, the Labour Club, Butchers Arms, the Thomas Henry, Netherhall Old Boys, Her Citi, Maryport Rugby League Club, and Netherhall Camp Site.
