Work will start on £220,000-worth of roadworks in Whitehaven on Monday.

Cumbria County Council will carry out the work to repair the pavements of Inkerman Terrace.

It is estimated it will last around five weeks, depending on the weather.

Workers will replace damaged sections of kerbs and renew the worn surface.

A temporary one-way system will be in place on Inkerman Terrace for the duration of the work and permits and disc parking will be suspended.

There will be no access to Inkerman Terrace from the A595, but traffic leaving town will be able to exit via Inkerman Terrace onto the A595.

Diversions will be in place, taking traffic back into Whitehaven via the A5094 New Road and there will be restrictions imposed on minor local roads to prevent ‘rat running’.

Following the work, resurfacing will begin on the road from September 12 for around a week.

Cumbria County Council said the work will have to be carried out under an official road closure for the duration and residents and businesses will be kept fully informed.
