A RIOT of colour resulting in runners raising over £30,000 for charity at a family fun event held at Muncaster Castle.

Over 500 competitors took part in Hospice at Home West Cumbria’s second annual Colour Run.

Hundreds gathered to watch the runners, showered in coloured powder paint, make their way around the 1k and 5k circuits at the castle’s estate and gardens.

One pair taking part were Judith South, of Frizington, and her four-year-old son, Isaac, who is currently being treated for acute lymphoblastic leukaemia. They raised nearly £300 after completing the 5k course.

Isaac was diagnosed last year and has daily oral chemotheraphy and steroids as well as monthly visits to the RVI for IV treatment.

Judith said: “He had a lovely day. I gave him a piggy-back through some of the course but he ran to the finishing line.’’

This year’s Colour Run total smashed the amount raised last year by £10,000.

Chrissie Cremins, marketing manager at Hospice at Home West Cumbria, said: “We would like to say a big thank you to each and every one of our Colour Run supporters who made the event an enormous success. This includes volunteers, spectators, staff and all our wonderful runners.

“Not forgetting our sponsors Dobies Cumbria and LLWR and of course the Moky Fit team for getting our participants warmed up and raring to go. A further thank you goes to paint flingers – Xtreme Fitness, West House and the Seascale Scouts. There wasn’t a clean T-shirt in sight!

“A very special thank you goes to our hosts Muncaster Castle for their unwavering support and the CFM team for keeping us entertained all afternoon. So thank you to all in attendance for turning what was a drizzly Sunday morning into an amazing day filled with colour, chaos, sunshine and laughter.’’

Winner of the 5k race was Craig Peet, aged 27, of Egremont, with eight-year-old Woody Leece winner of the 1k race.
