A DARING 57-year-old is sacrificing her long red locks for a number two haircut to raise money for charity.

Liz Nichols, of Clayton Road, Cleator Moor is undergoing the makeover for Macmillan Cancer Support because many of her family members have been affected by various forms of the disease.

After a night of live Irish music from D’ Bleedin Blaggards, Liz will be taking to the stage at The Brook, Cleator, to face the chop at around 9pm on August 14. Her daughter Lisa Birdsall, 31, will be taking on hairdressing duties for the evening.

Liz is a support worker in physiotherapy at West Cumberland Hospital and she suffered a heart attack in November 2013. In recent months, she has been diagnosed with type 2 diabetes and suspected heart failure.

“Doctors orders won’t permit me to do a sponsored run, but I still wanted to do something for charity,” said Liz.“I was scouring the internet for something I could do in my condition and shaving my head seemed like a good idea at the time, but I’m not so sure about it now!

“I’m a little nervous about it, because I’ve got no idea how I’m going to look. But it should be a laugh and it’ll be a cracking night.

“I’m also getting to the age where my hair is going grey – so I’m killing two birds with one stone by raising money for charity and saving a fortune on hair dye.”

Liz is aiming to raise £500 for the charity. You can donate online by visiting bravetheshave.org.uk/shavers/liz-nicholls
