Blood Bikes Cumbria volunteer Graeme Thompson took his motorbike into St James’ Pre-School to show the children. He talked to them about their work and, in return, they handed over a donation as a thank you.
The voluntary service delivers essential blood and urgent medical supplies between hospitals, out of hours.
Graeme, of Whitehaven, said they work with schools to get the safety message across from an early age. “We are an emergency on-call service and operate as part of a national team,” he said.
The kind-hearted children and parents at the pre-school have also donated selection boxes to youngsters on the children’s ward this week, as well as donating goody bags to Animal Concern.
The pre-school sold doggy bags at Whitehaven’s recent Christmas fair to raise funds and decided to hand over the unsold ones to the charity.
Jody McQuiston, manager of the Egremont-based charity, said: “We are thrilled to receive the donation of the goody bags made by the parents and children of the pre-school.”
The pre-school – which has places available – is working hard holding a variety of fundraising activities to buy new equipment.
