Van Gogh-inspired paintings will adorn the walls of Lowes Court Gallery after landscape painter Kevin Weaver was named as artist of the month for December.

A selection of work by former war correspondent Mr Weaver will be on display at the Egremont gallery throughout the month.

The artist takes his inspiration from works of JMW Turner and Vincent Van Gogh as he also uses light as a key component of his work.

"The landscape paintings that Kevin is showing are all about light, specifically the light at sunrise and sundown, from locations explored during recent travellings in his camper van," said Gareth Harrison, from Lowes Court.

"As well as the mountains and fields of West Cumbria, Kevin has also been studying the scenery in Cornwall, Yorkshire and Dumfries and Galloway."

Mr Weaver previously exhibited a selection of his work which was based on his time as a war correspondent, when he worked in places such as Bosnia, Kosovo and Rwanda. But December's exhibition greatly contrasts this.

"He now finds that living and painting from his base in Frizington among the landscape and light of West Cumbria is a great healer," said Gareth.

In addition to the paintings, there will be prints and cards of the painter's work on show at the gallery as well as gifts, other artworks and hand crafted items for Christmas.
