To celebrate the Olympics and Paralympics, the nation’s biggest sports day is happening this month.

On Saturday August 27, clubs across the county will be offering free entry, sports days as part of I Am Team GB

The scheme aims to celebrate Team GB's Olympic achievements, and encourage people across the UK to get more active.

Below is the full list of special events taking place in Cumbria on August 27.

Duddon Canoe Club Open Day, Barrow

11am-3pm

Visit the family oriented Duddon Canoe Club on Cavendish Dock Road, for an opportunity to try canoeing and kayaking. A range of boats will be available on the day, as well as the chance to try polo and slalom with coaches. All safety equipment provided.


I am Team GB Parkrun, Barrow

9am-10am

Join the free I am Team GB timed 5km run at Barrow Park.


Bitts Park Activity Day, Carlisle

10am-4pm

Head to Bitts Park tennis court from 10am-1pm for free drop in sessions with coaches. From 1pm – 4pm participants will be able to access the tennis courts free of charge.


DH Runners Summer Sportief, Carlisle

9am-1pm

Join DH Runners in Chances Park for a Team GB family Summer Sportief to celebrate the Olympics and Paralympics. There’ll be a picnic with a selection of sports including aikido, volleyball and rounders for people to partake in.


Disability Sports Day, Carlisle

11am-4pm

Come to Richard Rose Morton Academy and have a go at fully inclusive sports for all levels of disability and able bodied athletes, including boccia, football and wheelchair basketball.


I am Team GB Parkrun, Carlisle

9am-10am

As part of I Am Team GB, join the free friendly timed 5km run in Chance Gardens, Carlisle. The Cyclists Touring Club will also be there from 8.30am with turbo trainers and a Wattbike to give you an idea of multi sports.


Sands Leisure Centre Open Day, Carlisle

10am-3pm

The Sands Centre will open it’s doors to the public free of charge from 10am to allow people to take part in a series of sports and activities including badminton, basketball and dodgeball.


Sheepmount Athletics Open Morning, Carlisle

10am-12pm

The Sheepmount Athletics Stadium will be opening up its facilities to the public free of charge. Participants of all ages will have the opportunity to take part in a number mini coaching workshops delivered by qualified coaches.


Crown Green Bowls Taster Session, Carnforth

10am-12pm

A free taster session with Holme Bowling Club for anyone interested in having a go at crown green bowls, under the tuition of the clubs qualified coaches.


Abbot Hall Taster Day, Kendal

1pm-3pm

Head down to Abbot Hall and have a go at the crown green bowling - accessible to all.


IAmTeamGB Sessions, Kendal

10am-12pm & 2pm-3pm

Try out Olympic style sports games including athletics, basketball, football and swimming at Kendal Leisure Centre. Call for more info on 01539 729777


Riversiders Trust Sports Day, Kendal

10am-12pm

Disability sports including boccia, football and goalball at the Kendal Leisure Centre, organised by the Riversiders Trust.


I am Team GB Parkrun, Keswick

9am-10am

Join the free, friendly I Am Team GB 5km run in Keswick near the leisure centre, on the old railway line path.


Roman Olympics, Maryport

10am-4pm

Ewanrigg Local Trust is hosting a day based on traditional Roman Olympics Games. Morning sessions will involve making team mascots and flags, followed by an afternoon of games.


Have a Go Badminton, Milnthorpe

10am-12pm

Taster session at Heversham Badminton Club in Dallam School, for anyone who wants to try Badminton for the first time, or is looking to join a club and potentially play competitively.


I am Team GB Fell Foot Parkrun, Newby Bridge

9am-10am

As part of I Am Team GB, join the free friendly timed 5km run in Fell Foot Park, Newby Bridge.

9am-10am

Join the free I am Team GB timed 5km run at Frenchfield Sports Centre in Penrith.


Ullswater Yacht Club, Penrith

10am-3pm

Ullswater Yacht Club is holding free sailing taster sessions, as well as other family friendly activities on the water and land for all the family.


Go Tri, Shap

9am-3pm

Have a go at a triathlon with a 200m swim in Shap outdoor pool, 10k cycle and 2.5k run in the grass.


I Am Team GB Olympic Sports, Ulverston

10am-12pm

2 hours of Olympic sports for all the family at Ulverston Leisure Centre. Have a go at team games and competitions - no need to book just turn up on the day.


I Am Team GB Open Day, Workington

10am-3pm

Workington Leisure Centre in Moorclose will open its doors to the public free of charge, letting people try activities including gymnastics, squash, disability swimming, football and more.

9am-10am
