A team of celebrity Christmas decorators has transformed a Cumbrian hotel.

The Trout Hotel in Cockermouth has decked its halls out in exceptional style.

Liverpool firm The Christmas Decorators, whose prestigious clientele includes the likes of Wayne Rooney, Sir Elton John, Sharon Osbourne and the Beckhams, headed further north to adorn the award-winning hotel with an extravaganza of twinkling lights, beautiful baubles and glittering garlands, all in time for the illumination of this year’s Cockermouth Christmas lights on Sunday.

As well as beautiful indoor and outdoor decorations, The Trout’s riverside garden has been bedazzled with a 15ft glistening Christmas tree.

Managing director Sue Eccles said: “ We ’re always thrilled to see the fantastic work The Christmas Decorators do to the hotel. They have been providing us with stunning decorations for some years now and this year is no exception.

"The town has such beautiful Christmas lights and we’re thrilled to be able to join in the festive spirit and compliment the town’s decorations.”

Cockermouth's Christmas lights will be switched on at 5pm on Sunday. The town council has organised a fun-filled afternoon in the lead up to the big moment, when hundreds of people will join in the count down.

From 2pm, Main Street will be full of festive folk, fun, food and entertainment. To get everyone in the mood, Cockermouth Music Centre band will be first on the Main Street stage at 2pm. They will be followed by Stagecoach Theatre at 2.30pm and Jack Moore on sax at 3pm.

There will be a Santa's grotto, funfair and stilt walkers as well as lots of local charity stalls.

Mandy's Dancing Divas will take to the stage at 3.30pm, followed by Luke Matear at 4.30pm.

Doing the switch-on honours will be Cockermouth mayor Alan Tyson, accompanied by two children from each of the town's three primary schools.

Thousands of people are expected to head into the town centre to enjoy everything that is on offer.

The final act of the night will be Brightside, who will take to the stage once the lights are on and play until 6pm.
