A NEW homeless hostel in Egremont for ex-servicemen will have its official opening ceremony on Wednesday, September 30.

The 11-bedroom home, known as Calderwood House, created on the site of the former town police station, will be formally opened by Richard Rhodes, Cumbria’s Police and Crime Commissioner who says the facility will offer huge benefit to ex-military personnel.

When people come out of the forces, they can often not know where to turn for a job and a place to stay, he says, and homeless people can often fall into crime just to survive.

The Egremont hostel can provide support and guidance and a place to live until they can get their lives back on track.

The Time for Change organisation behind the project, its directors, sponsors and funders will be there on the day and there will be entertainment from local singer Cindy Hoten.
