A flower display, concert and afternoon tea helped the High Sheriff of Cumbria raise over £1,000 for two charities.

High Sheriff Reverend Richard Lee organised an epiphany-themed service at St Mary and St Michael's Church, Egremont, to collect funds for Jigsaw Children's Hospice and Crimebeat (Cumbria Community Foundation).

His term as High Sheriff comes to an end on March 22 and visitors came from across the county to attend the service.

"We entertained people in the church, invited donations and put on a tea in the church hall," said Reverend Lee. "We wanted to do something for the west of the county and we were honoured by the presence of the Lord-Lieutenant for Cumbria Claire Hensman.

"We had guests from near and far including the mayor of Ulverston. It was a very enjoyable event, people commented on how the church is a hidden gem.

"It's been a wonderful year as High Sheriff, there are so many good people doing so many good things. I've seen some wonderful jobs being done."

Whitehaven Flower Club put together a floral display while there was a performance from vocal group Herdwyck Consort alongside organist Christopher Lamb.

And Wigton North Allerdale Development Team played a film, Footsteps of Our Fathers, to the congregation. The film was put together by local youngsters and detailed what their grandparents had gone through during the Battle of the Somme.

Jigsaw Children's Hospice provides day to day care, support and activities to children and young people living with a life limiting illness.

The High Sheriff's Crimebeat Fund supports young people facing disadvantage. Priority is given to groups whose activities target young people involved with crime or in danger of becoming involved in antisocial behaviour or crime.
