PUPILS gathered to say a fond farewell to Bookwell School’s headteacher, Christopher Ashcroft.

A leaving assembly was held at the school with each class presenting their own special memory of Mr Ashcroft. The year 4 class performed a ‘This Is Your Life’ presentation with a big red book to help him “remember everything about Bookwell’’.

Egremont town councillor, Mike McVeigh, also presented Mr Ashcroft with a pen in acknowledgement of his work at Bookwell and within the Egremont community.

Mr Ashcroft started at the school in 1988 and was appointed headteacher in 2008, leading the school to an “outstanding’’ Ofsted in 2011.

Mr Ashcroft said: “I cannot believe that 27 years have passed so quickly. I’ve had a fantastic career at Bookwell and have worked with so many great children, parents and staff. I look forward to continuing to work in education in the future but as a consultant.’’
