A daughter has raised around £3,300 in a charity head shave in memory of her “hero” dad.

Frances Bailey, of Whitehaven, braved the shave in aid of Ochre – The Oesophageal Cancer Charity.

The 30-year-old is raising cash in memory of her father David, who lost his fight with oesophageal cancer last June.

She set her target at £200, and said she was overwhelmed by the donations that have poured in.

Frances paid tribute to her father and spoke about his illness.

She said: “My dad – my hero – was diagnosed with oesophageal cancer in December 2014.

“He had surgery to remove the cancer on June 10, 2015 – it was successful.

“But the cancer spread and dad was diagnosed as terminally ill in the October.

“He lost his fight on June 8, 2016.”

She said her late father raised cash for charity in different ways, and she wanted to fundraise in his memory.

Frances described the Ochre charity as “a truly deserving charity”.

She added: “I hope people will help me make a difference.”

Ochre’s main aim is to promote awareness of oesophageal cancer to the public, politicians and professionals by holding meetings, functions, talks and courses, and by establishing a website and distributing leaflets.

It also provides funding for equipment for early diagnosis and staging of the tumour prior to treatment and for curative and palliative treatment.
