Rising folk star Luke Jackson returns to the county for a headline show this month.

The BBC Radio 2 Folk Awards nominee appeared at the Ireby Festival this summer, and on Friday December 9 he is heading to Egremont for a headline set at the Florence Arts Centre.

Supporting him for the show will be top local talent Emma Dockeray.

Luke Jackson hails from Canterburry, and in 2013 was nominated in the BBC Radio 2 Folk Awards for both the Horizon Award for Best Emerging Talent and The Young Folk Category.

A singer-songwriter, he has a bold, distinctive voice and a sweet, percussive guitar style that makes him a captivating live performer.

His debut album, More Than Boys, was produced by the acclaimed Welsh singer-songwriter Martyn Joseph, and was released in 2012 to great reviews, as was the follow-up, Fumes and Faith, in early 2014.

With an EP last year, this November saw the release of his third album, Tall Tales And Rumours. The record builds on his enviable reputation as a master storyteller in the vein of Richard Thompson, with a voice which, according to Mark Radcliffe on BBC Radio 2, is reminiscent of Jeff Buckley.

Luke has played across the world, recently a spate in gigs in Europe and is no stranger to Cumbria, having played at Carlisle Folk and Blues Club and the Ireby Festival over the past few years.

This is your chance to see him in the intimate setting of Florence Arts Centre, his rich blend of contemporary songwriting and heartfelt lyrics is going to be a night not to miss.

Florence’s championing of local musicians continues with a support slot for Whitehaven singer-songwriter Emma Dockeray.

This year she released her eponymous five-track EP featuring her perfectly pitched country and folk-driven pop songs and her gorgeous vocals.

Doors open at 7.30pm, and tickets are available in advance from the venue's box office.
