A society that celebrates Whitehaven's rich history looks set to end.
Due to dwindling numbers, and a lack of response for new members, the Whitehaven Local History Society can no longer keep going.
A special general meeting is set to be held on May 16 to dissolve the group. It will be held at the United Reformed Church hall, from 7.30pm.
Established around 20 years ago, the group gives people an insight into the town's past. It was formed by Frances Wormstrup and Anne Dick.
Over the years the Society has held lectures, members nights and outings.
The three current committee members are: Anne Dick, president; Valerie Proud, treasurer and Eva Elliot.
Eva said over the past couple of years numbers have fallen. They now have around a dozen members at meetings.
She added: "All we have tried to do is to give people an insight into Whitehaven's great local history."
Members have been contacted about the group's closure. They will have the chance to look at presentations and photos at last meeting.
The Society is a founder member of the Cumbria Local History Federation and belongs to the British Association for Local History.
