IT may only be October but it’s beginning to look a lot like Christmas for Egremont Town Council.

Planning has started for its Christmas event, which will take place on November 29, and this year will be the biggest and best yet.

Alongside the usual festive lights and market, there will be a Father Christmas grotto and a snow globe.

The market and the Christmas lights have also been extended.

Geraldine Pritchard, one of the event organisers, said: “We’ve got a snow globe this year where people can stand inside and get their photograph taken.

“There will also be more stalls and different people are coming this year, which is good because we always try to have different things and not duplicate.

“We’ve got a firework display that is hopefully going to be set to music and a hot chestnut stall this year.”

The five local primary schools – Bookwell, Orgill, St Bridget’s, Moor Row and Thornhill – will get to take part with each child making a Christmas wish to be hung on the Wishing Tree in the Market Place.

The wishes will also be hung on trees at Moor Row and Bigrigg, while the schools will have the opportunity to take part in Christmas competitions.

Christmas raffle tickets will be on sale shortly from the Egremont Co-op as well as from the Town Council office.

Members of the committee will attempt to get to as many houses as possible to sell tickets.

However if anyone would like to sell tickets among family and friends it would be appreciated as the raffle is one of the Christmas events biggest fundraisers.

Geraldine said: “We’d like to thank the people who give us annual pledges: Mayson brothers, Millcroft Vets, Reay’s coaches and the businesses and individuals who have donated prices.

“We would also like to thank Memory Lane, Unite, the Copeland community fund and Low Level Waste Repository.”
