THE two injured in a tragic crash on the A595 on Friday night remain in hospital.

An 18-year-old woman and 51-year-old man were flown by Air Ambulance to Preston Royal Hospital and Liverpool's Aintree Hospital respectively following the collision near Bootle that claimed the lives of Skye Mitchell and Caitlin Huddleston, both aged 18, from the Millom area.

The third 18-year-old was a back-seat passenger in the Toyota Yaris when it collided with white Ford Transit van, driven by the man.

Cumbria police have now confirmed both injured are now in a stable condition in hospital.

The woman had been described as critical after the accident while the van driver was serious but stable.
