A Whitehaven football fan, caught up in the terrifying Euro 2016 violence, is set to return to watch his beloved team England play today.

Jordan Walker, 26, was in Marseille last Saturday when violence broke before and after England's 1-1 draw against Russia.

But, he is not letting it spoil his Euros experience and he is set to return to France to watch England against Wales.

Speaking about last weekend's clashes, he said apart from being hit by tear gas, he got away "relatively unscathed".

Jordan said: "I know some England fans can misbehave abroad, but we are not to blame for any of what happened.

"The Russians had clearly planned everything, I don't think they'd even had a beer when they turned up from almost every side street with gumshields in hitting people with bottles, knives and other weapons."

He said England fans, both young and old, were injured in the clashes. A similar attack took place outside the ground before the match.

"England fans fled to what the police told us was the entrance, but they closed the gates and tear gassed us, there were several children gassed as a result," he said.

He claimed French police were heavily handed with England fans earlier, tear gassing those who "were happily having a beer and singing but when it all kicked off and the Russians turned up they were nowhere to be seen".

He said: "The incidents on Saturday have ensured that I definitely won't be attending the 2018 World Cup in Russia, but I'm determined not to let it spoil my experience of Euro 2016."

Some schools have decided to show today's England game. Pupils at Distington Community School are heading to class in their kits before sitting down to watch the game.

Students at St Bridget's in Egremont, will also wear their shirts to watch the game with the school preparing a big screen and refreshments.

Among the Whitehaven pubs showing the 2pm kick off, The Bransty Arch, Wetherspoons, and The Sunny Hill will have food and drink promotions. At Sunny Hill, where the bar is decorated with the flags of participating nations, there will be free half-time food.
