Egremont student Isabel Postlethwaite is heading to India this week to take part in a World Challenge Project.

She is part of a group travelling to Cochin, Southern India, who will be helping a community rebuild a damaged school, give lessons and donated stationery.

To enable Isabel, who goes to West Lakes Academy, to do this, the Rotary Club of Whitehaven Castle recently presented her with a cheque to fund her visa and medical supplies.

She was also presented with dozens of pencils and pencil cases for the students in India which were donated by the Rotary Club of Workington from Derwent Pencils.

The Rotary Club of Whitehaven Castle has also been busy during the past couple of months raising funds and supporting local projects and activities.

They have recently helped with car parking at Distington Vintage Rally and with controlling road closures for Whitehaven's recent carnival.

In addition, they are busy collecting bedding, towels and kitchenware for use in the rooms at the new hostel for homeless teenagers in Whitehaven, which is run by Impact Housing Association.

The Rotary Club of Whitehaven Castle has also raised a lot of money for Hospice at Home West Cumbria, Age UK and the Prince's Trust, and thanked Tesco and the Co-op of Egremont and Cleator Moor for allowing them to use their premises for fundraising.

Rotary members also thanked Yvonne and Norman Clarkson for "generously hosting'' their Royal Celebration evening in June for The Prince's Trust.
