MODERN folk performer Russell Joslin returns to the Florence Arts Centre in August following a successful debut at the Egremont venue last summer.

A singer-songwriter with folk roots but a punk swagger, his songs are firmly rooted in the here and now.

The London-based performer will team up with Australian vocalist Sarah McCaig for the return visit to Cumbria on Saturday August 5.

Joslin will be playing a set of songs from his three critically-acclaimed albums, plus tracks from his forthcoming new album.

Representing the new breed of socially engaged DIY wordsmiths with the non-industry ethics of punk and the musical elements of folk, he has had airplay on BBC Radio and XFM.

When McCaig and Joslin met in an east London flatshare in 2013 it was a meeting of souls which resulted in one of the most intriguing romantic duets on the London folk scene and marked Joslin’s return to the folk scene.

Over the last couple of years the duet have performed three tours of continental Europe, taking in Finland, Germany and Switzerland, FMM Sines World Music Festival in Portugal, Sark Folk Festival, Lyme Regis Folk Weekend plus numerous high-profile London dates.

They both appear on Joslin's new album, Hey Mathematician, which is due out in August. Expect to hear some brand-new material featuring in the set in Egremont.

The show on Saturday starts at 5.30pm, and tickets are available from the venue's box office.
