Firefighters will be recognised and remembered with an honours board in Egremont fire station.

Current firemen are setting up the board - which will list all the staff that have served in the area - and need you to get in touch!

Anyone who worked for Egremont fire service or has information on former firefighters should contact the station.

Crew manager David McDowell said: "I've been populating an honours board for Egremont fire station with the help of a number of people, which will include firefighters up to the present day.

"We originally put out a request for former firemen to get in contact with us, but now we are going to be closing it in the next few weeks."

Research for the honours board has been in progress for a number of years. The cut-off date is Saturday, May 28 and once all the information has been collected the board will be created.

After it has been produced the crew plan to host an open day in Egremont, including an unveiling ceremony. This will also allow ex-firemen to revisit the station.

"We're basically looking for anyone who has ever served in Egremont, especially old members who haven't been in touch yet.

"It's to recognise anyone who has ever provided a service to the local community," said Mr McDowell.

"I'm currently tweaking the list before the board is manufactured. Once it's finished we will be holding an open day to reveal it and we will invite former firemen to come down."
