Thoughtful youngsters helped to raise money for worthy causes with a fun-filled charity night.

Children from the 1st Egremont Beaver Scouts group collected £315.50 and will donate it to Macmillan Cancer Care and Give us a Break.

The charity night and cake sale included games such as guess how many sweets in the jar, a treasure hunt, and guess the name of the teddy.

"Our grand total for the evening was a fantastic £315.50! 1st Egremont Beavers would like to thank everyone who supported us and helped to make it an exceptional evening," said Anne Mawson, from the scout group.

"The children worked very hard helping on the stalls. Many thanks to those who helped with the raffle, face painting and all those who contributed cakes and refreshments for our cake sale."

The Beavers held the charity evening in the Meeting Place at Egremont Methodist Church.

Cake and coffee sales are Macmillan's biggest fundraising event for people facing cancer. The charity's goal is to make sure no one faces cancer alone.

It provides medical, emotional, practical and financial support and campaigns for better cancer care.

While Give us a Break is a campaign to build a local respite centre to support children with disabilities and their families.

The charity aims to provide and sustain a supportive environment to help children be free, safe and able to develop themselves.

Egremont's Beavers, Cubs and Scouts meet every Friday for sessions in the Meeting Place between 5pm and 9.15pm. The Beavers group is for children aged between five and seven.
