PLANNING applications for 21 houses in Cleator Moor have been received by Copeland Council.

The houses could be built at Mill Hill by High Grange Developments as part of its Keekle Meadows project – which aims to create 66 homes on the outskirts of Cleator Moor.

Gary Reed, managing director for High Grange Developments, said that the applications are part of a multi-style housing development in which 40 houses have already been built or are close to completion.

He added: “This proposal is for 66 dwellings which comprise two and three bed bungalows, three-bed semi-detached houses and four, five and six bed detached houses.

“As this development evolves, it will be a boost to the confidence and aspirations of the community and offer a catalyst to the economic, social and environmental regeneration of Cleator Moor.

“It is a very popular site. Of the latest seven houses, four were reserved almost immediately.”

There are 14 permanent staff working on the project alongside between 12 and 20 additional tradespeople on site, the majority of whom are locally based.

Mill Hill saw a £20,000 restoration of its football field last year, which was funded by Cleator Moor Town Council along with a £5,000 contribution from High Grange Developments.

The developers have also agreed to create a new road into the estate to improve accessibility early this year once design and drainage proposals have been resolved.

Along the west boundary, there will be fencing, tree planting and seating installed. Additional fencing and trees will also be included elsewhere on the site.

Mr Reed said: “We’re delighted that football field development is going ahead. It was a real eyesore before and it’s going to totally transform the area.

“We’ve been behind it 100 per cent.

“t’s a wonderful location, it just needs that bit of work done to it and that’s why we’ve been fundraising.

“We’re extremely pleased with the way the area is shaping up and the enthusiasm people have for the houses we’re building.”
