Motorists can expect delays in and around Keswick over the next few weeks as two major roadwork projects are carried out.

Drivers can expect disruption on Crosthwaite Road until next month owing to f ootpath and carriageway construction.

T he footpath works will be carried out using temporary traffic lights and the resurfacing will require a temporary road closure.

Major works started this week on the A591 at Chestnut Hill. The road will be closed from the junction of Penrith Road to the Castlerigg turn-off and work is expected to last two weeks – weather permitting.

This will mean Stagecoach bus services to Grasmere and Lancaster are affected.

Once that has been completed, there will be more resurfacing work carried out on the A591 from Chestnut Hill to the slip road.

This is due to start on October 2 and last for three days.

Another section of roadworks which closed the A591 from Applethwaite up to Castle Inn while work is carried out by United Utilities for the installation of its new £300 million pipeline from Thirlmere has now reopened.
