HUNDREDS of thrill-seeking west Cumbrians descended on Cleator Moor for a day of inflatable games and fairground rides.

More than 450 youngsters and adults took to the town on Saturday to try their luck on the Miami fair ride, bouncing boxing, bungee eliminator, obstacle course, combo bouncy castles and slide.

There was also local music talent on display, with singing performances from local songstress, Zoe Warren, along with Lee Shackley and Amy and Louisa Morton.

Other fun activities on the day included a climbing wall, rodeo bull, giant pop-up cinema, tombola, raffles and various stalls such as tin-can alley, basketball shoot-out, bean bag toss and hook-a-duck.

The event was organised by The Phoenix Youth Project (PYP) which runs youth centres across Cleator Moor, Moor Row and Frizington.

Paul Rowe, project manager of PYP said: "This is the biggest event that happens in Cleator Moor and once again the day couldn’t have gone any better.

"There were hundreds of children, young people and families all with smiles on their faces throughout the event. It was a huge success with everyone commenting on how brilliant the day was and how great the atmosphere was."

Just under £1,900 was raised at the event which will be used to fund activities across the three youth centres and next year's annual fun day.

This year’s event was funded by Cleator Moor Town Team (£1,000), Nisa (£400), Cumberland Building Society (£250), Ennerdale Brewery (£250), and Cleator Moor Masonic Centre (£120).

The remaining £3,000 plus was made up from funds raised at last year's and this year’s event.

Paul added: "This event could not have happened without support from our fantastic staff, trustees, young people, numerous volunteers who were fantastic on and before the day and must importantly the event's funders. There are too many to name you all but thank you for your support."

PYP now needs £3,000 to make next year's event happen and is looking for support from local businesses. For more information, call Paul on 01946 814555.
