THE family of the late Danica Maxwell is "fuming'' after a poster advertising a memorial charity event was defaced with the words "No-one cares''.

A fun day, held last Saturday, subsequently raised £1,500 which will go towards Danica's Dream Fund which currently stands at £135,000. However, a flyer, advertising the event, posted on an Egremont bus stop had previously been vandalised.

Danica's dad, John, said: "It feels like we've had a massive kick in the stomach. To know someone is writing stuff like this over Danica's memory. "A lot of work goes into organising these charity events and the money raised goes to help other families in need. We are fuming.''

Danica, of Egremont, died in 2010 following a brave battle against three brain tumours. The money raised by her charity supports families with children who are seriously, or terminally, ill.

John said there was another occasion when a woman raised money in Danica's name, but then failed to hand it over. However, he said the family continued to be deeply moved by the continuing help they receive from the community.

John added: "I'm just glad there are still good people out there who are, and have, supported the charity. "People do care and it is only one or two idiots who think like this. We put it on Facebook and everyone is disgusted.''
