MORE than 100 youngsters will star in a charity show this week.

Members of The Cowper School of Dance will take part in an event called Dance Spectacular.

The show will take place at Workington's Carnegie Theatre on Friday and Saturday.

Money raised will be donated to the Henderson Suite at the West Cumberland Hospital in Whitehaven.

Organisers chose to support the suite in memory of Jeanette Smith who helped at the school for about 20 years.

Jeanette was treated at the Henderson Suite before she died in September.

The show will feature songs from productions including Matilda , Mary Poppins and Les Miserables .

Tap dancing, street dancing, two acrobatic groups and singing from Kerryann Wilson will also feature.

Adrienne Kelly, principal, said: “Everyone’s really looking forward to it and the pupils have all been working really hard.

“We’ve got a really good variety this year. There’s something for everyone.

“Jeanette is very sadly missed, but it’s nice that we can do this.”

The school, which is marking its 145th anniversary, organises at least one charity show every year.

Adrienne’s great grandfather Oliver Cowper founded the school in 1871 and has been run by members of his family since.

The ages of the performers ranges from two-and-a-half to 30 years old.

Previous performances have raised funds for causes including BBC Cumbria’s Jigsaw Appeal and the Whitehaven and District Lions Club.

The school has also held several Christmas shows over the years in Workington and Whitehaven.

A group of about 60 pupils performed at the London Palladium in the West End two years ago.

Friday’s show starts at 7.30pm and Saturday’s begins at 2.30pm.

Tickets cost £7 and are available from the theatre or through its website www.carnegie theatre.co.uk.
