AN Egremont church is set to benefit from a gruelling fundraising challenge - in memory of a much-loved caretaker.
Billy King and Michael McLoughlin have cycled the Coast 2 Coast route, from St Mary's Church in Egremont to Tynemouth on the North East coast, with proceeds boosting a fundraising campaign for restoration of the church.
The campaign - the Joe Brocklebank Church Restoration Fund - has been created in memory of Mr Brocklebank, who recently died and was described by the cyclists as "a dedicated caretaker to St Mary's for much of his life".
After completing the ride in two-and-a-half days, the cyclists have raised £2,000 so far.
"The ride was completed in decent weather conditions and without any mechanical or technical problems - not event a puncture!" said Billy, 77, who was completing his first Coast 2 Coast ride alongside Michael, an experienced C2C cyclist.
"The Fund aims to pay for some much-needed restoration to the church building, and particularly the roof."
Billy and Michael are continuing to invite donations at www.justgiving.com/crowdfunding/fiona-mcloughlin
