KFCs in Cumbria remained closed for a second day today after delivery problems meant they ran out of chicken.

Workington's KFC closed at 6.30pm yesterday and remains closed today, though it could open at some point today.

The fried chicken restaurant, in The Lanes Shopping Centre, Carlisle, was closed yesterday and didn't open at 11am this morning as it usually would have.

The outlet at the Welcome Break service station at Gretna is also shut for a second day.

KFC in Barrow was also closed yesterday until further notice.

Cumbria's branches of the fastfood giant are among hundreds nationwide to be affected by problems with deliveries.

KFC said it couldn't confirm when the Carlisle restaurant will reopen but said it was working to make sure it would be "as soon as possible".

A statement on KFC's website said: "We’ve brought a new delivery partner on board, but they’ve had a couple of teething problems.

"Getting fresh chicken out to 900 restaurants across the country is pretty complex.

"We won’t compromise on quality, so no deliveries has meant some of our restaurants are closed, and others are operating a limited menu, or shortened hours.

"We know that this might have inconvenienced some of you over the last few days, and disappointed you when you wanted your fried chicken fix - we’re really sorry about that."

A list on the company's website states all branches that reopened last night, with none in Cumbria included.
