REVELLERS flocked to Egremont last night as the 749th Crab Fair got under way with live music and a fancy dress wheelbarrow race.

Performances from 2011 X Factor finalist Kitty Brucknell and from the Midnight Soul Sisters, a Motown tribute act featuring Bupsi Brown - an X Factor finalist from 2015 - thrilled Main Street crowds.

An array of dancers and musicians entertained visitors while the traditional fancy dress wheelbarrow race and pipe smoking also took place.

Tonight multiple champion Tommy Mattinson will be looking to regain his gurning crown after Gordon Blacklock surprisingly stole victory last year.

The World Gurning Championships begins at 6pm in the Market Hall where there will also be a junior talent contest and night time entertainment from Don McKay. And a new queen is ready to take centre stage at this year's fair.

Madison Robb, 11, from Orgill, is this year's Crab Fair Queen with Leah Milton named as the reserve queen.

Today, Jez Avery's biking stunt show is set to wow visitors alongside a bird of prey display.

Street racing, an exhibition of classic and vintage vehicles and greasy pole entertainment are part of the packed schedule.

Throughout the afternoon visitors will be able to find out about local history, attend pigeon and horticultural shows or relax in the tea and coffee tent.

Speaking previously, Crab Fair secretary Callum Scott said: "We are hoping for good weather and a good turnout. The last two years have been exceptional.

"Next year is a huge 750th anniversary and we are already planning a show stopper event we welcome new and old visitors to our event and thank you all for your support."

More activities include: A pet competition; egg throwing; terrier racing; a ferret show and races; terrier and lurcher shows; horse jumping and a beer tent with live music all day.
