MEMBERS of the public will be able to share their views on a number of issues at a meeting in Egremont next week.

Copeland mayor Mike Starkie is set to hold a public meeting on Wednesday, November 23 at Egremont Rangers Rugby League Club from 6pm.

Representatives of Cumbria County Council and parish councils have also been invited to attend.

"There is a lot happening in the borough at present," said Mr Starkie. "As part of my commitment to open, transparent local governance and engaging directly with constituents this is a good way to see as many people as possible."

Among the issues up for discussion will be the West Cumberland Hospital and the retention of its services and the Moorside nuclear project.

Visitors will also be able to ask questions about the proposed National Grid route and the subsequent impact on the environment and the United Utilities plan to switch the area's water supply from Ennerdale to Thirlmere.

Mr Starkie said: "There are significant issues happening – and about to happen – in the borough and we will be pleased to give information particularly around the corporate strategy, its aims and objectives."

Copeland Council is also approaching the budget consultation period and will be seeking the public's view on how money should be spent.

Mr Starkie will use the meetings to update people on how he is working on his manifesto commitments.
