A flood alert is in place for the north Cumbrian coastline this lunchtime.

The Environment Agency has issued the alert for a stretch of coast from Silloth to St Bees. It is in place for the afternoon high tide, which is expected to peak between 1.15pm and 1.45pm.

It warns that tidal spray and onshore flooding may occur to roads and some properties along the coast.

A spokesman said Environment Agency officers are on the ground ensuring defences are in good working order, monitoring sea levels and wind directions.

High water can be expected for 2 hours before and after the peak.
