THE closure of Kells Royal British Legion is to be discussed at a special general meeting.
It will be held at the club on Wednesday, August 10 at 7pm.
Members only are asked to attend to discuss and vote on the club's closure on the recommendation of the Legion's committee.
The club has been battling for the past six months to stay open. It hosts community events as well as being the control point for organising the Whitehaven poppy appeal which raises thousands of pounds each year. The club has been based at Hill Top Road since 1945.
Alan Barnes, secretary of Kells Legion, said: "From a thriving club in the early years with more than 500 members the situation worsened with the closure of Haig Pit and Marchon.
"Changing lifestyles has caused the closure of many clubs and pubs, and with dwindling numbers of customers it has become more difficult to survive.''
