A caring group has created decorative hearts to give Cleator Moor town centre a bit of TLC.

COSC - Copeland Occupational and Social Centre - is embarking on a community project inspired by the response to the heart project following the Manchester terror attack.

People from all over the world showed their solidarity with the city by making hearts to be distributed around the Manchester Arena where the attack took place.

Over 400 handmade hearts are to be displayed around Cleator Moor Square. People will be able to take the hearts away with them to keep.

Pauline Grears, COSC member, said: "We thought it would be nice to do something to brighten up The Square and do something nice for people to take away.

"It is a great way for members to get involved with the community and gain a sense of achievement. Some have never done any sewing before.

"Every stitch has been done with love and care and in many cases with great difficulty.

"If it is a success we would like to do it on a rolling basis around our local villages and towns, on Whitehaven Harbour and in Maryport, where we also have a centre.

"We want to raise awareness of our services as a lot of people in Cleator Moor haven't even heard of us."

Members of the public are invited to make their own hearts or to donate ribbon or materials to the centre.

"We would be grateful for any help no matter how small," Mrs Grears said.

COSC provide day care for adults with various disabilities throughout West Cumbria.

Members can take part in activities designed to increase confidence, stimulate new interests and gain a new learning experience.

Those who wish to get involved in the project should contact the centre on 01900 819648.
