A 34-year-old man was jailed for 12 weeks for harassing a woman.

Russell Roberts, of Dent Place, Cleator Moor, pleaded guilty to harassing a woman by contacting her numerous times by texts, voicemail and through family members.

The offence was deemed serious enough for a prison sentence because Roberts ignored his victim’s obvious distress, it was a prolonged series of incidents that involved others and he was on licence for a violent offence.

Roberts pleaded guilty to the offence when he appeared before magistrates in Workington.

He was placed under a restraining order forbidding him from contacting or visiting the victim or her family. This order is in place until further notice.

Roberts also had to pay a victim surcharge of £115.
