CLEATOR Moor and Frizington churches are uniting this Christmas in an event raising money for charities tackling cancer.

Shining Stars at Christmas will be held at Cleator Moor Methodist Church from December 11-13 ending with the ecumenical carol service.

Participants will then put a star with a personal message on the church’s Christmas tree in memory of a loved one and make a charitable donation.

The church is hoping to get schools and local organisations involved, with Montreal Primary already confirmed to be taking part.

On December 13, at 6pm there will be a community carol service. The decorated tree will form the centrepiece of the service to celebrate and dedicate the lives

Children and community groups will also decorate the church windows with stars to mark the event.

The event received a £250 boost from Cleator Moor town council. Clerk, Helen Gilmour, said that the idea was “lovely” and that it was raising money for a good cause, which is close to a lot of people’s hearts.

During the event, the Methodist church will be open from 10am until 3pm on Friday and Saturday. On Sunday, the church will be open from 2pm onwards with the community carol service starting at 6pm.
