AN individual with a "passion for music" is being sought by Whitehaven Male Voice Choir.

The popular choir, established almost 40 years ago, is on the look out for a new musical director after previous incumbent, Peter Argyle, stood down after last week's show in Keswick.

"We're seeking an enthusiastic individual with a passion for music of all kinds," said the choir's spokesman Graeme Wishart, "and the ability to lead vocally and train amateur voices to a high level of performance."

The choir has a 35-strong membership and raises thousands for local charity with its annual shows. They have also performed alongside the likes of Sir Tom Jones and Dame Shirley Bassey, and in iconic venues including The Royal Albert Hall and Cardiff Arms Park.

Graeme added: "The choir perform a wide variety of music and the musical director should be prepared to to develop and plan concert programmes with enjoyable and challenging music, and encourage, motivate and develop the choir.

"The benefits of the choir are considerable, not least in the proven areas of health and breathing, and also bringing into people's lives the fun, joy and camaraderie, regardless of previous musical experience, which is achieved through the power of music and singing."
