BUTTER paper and bamboo helped transformed Copeland children into midsummer fairies this week.

A Fly Away Shakespeare craft workshop held at Whitehaven Library saw around 20 youngsters design and make their own wings and wands.

It saw families gather to test their creative skills helped by artist, Cat Jessop.

The half-term session, organised by librarian Rachel Wilkinson, was part of a year of celebrations to mark the 400th anniversary of Shakespeare's death.

Tanya Daniels, community librarian who helped at the workshop, said: "It was lovely to see the children so focused making their wings and wands. They had a great time and just fluttered out of the library at the end of the session!''

Over the past months Whitehaven Library has held a variety of events to mark Shakespeare's anniversary.

This include a murder mystery evening with some of Shakespeare's most famous characters, and Shakespeare Week which invited children to learn more about the Bard and to make a Tudor portrait frame.
