A child has been taken to hospital following a crash in west Cumbria.

The youngster was riding a bike which was in collision with a vehicle in Main Road, Distington, at lunchtime.

A spokesman for Cumbria Police said: "There was an RTC involving one vehicle and a young child on a bike.

"The child sustained minor injuries and having been assessed at the scene, was taken to hospital by ambulance for further checks."

Officers were called to the scene at about 12.45pm by the North West Ambulance Service who arrived minutes earlier.

The road was closed both ways earlier following the incident which happened between Church Road and Hinnings Road but is now open.
