A man has been charged with theft following the burglary of a fledgling Whitehaven business on Tuesday morning.

Around £5,000 of bikes and computer equipment was taken from The Bike Shed on Roper Street just days after it opened.

A 26-year-old man from Whitehaven has since been arrested and charged.

Owner Paul Fagan said the burglary had “knocked the business back” because he relies on the computer system to order parts. He added: “You try your hardest to start something and then this happens.”

  • A Cannondale Jekyll bike worth £4,000 was also stolen in a separate incident at Ennerdale on Tuesday night. Anyone with information is asked to call police on 101.
