A charity rugby match in memory of a Whitehaven teenager has raised £1,800.

The event, for Sarah's Star Fund, was held at Hensingham ARLFC and included stocks, face-painting, games, a raffle and balloon race.

Money raised will go towards the charity set up in memory of Sarah McKain who died aged 19 in June 2013.

Sarah had a rare heart defect and was committed to helping others with similar conditions, as well as fundraising for different causes.

Hannah McKain, sister of Sarah, said: "We want to thank all those who supported us, it was a great success."

She also released a balloon alongside her cousin, Lucy McKain, in memory of Sarah.

Sarah's Star Fund supports children and adults the CHD and their families, including those who live locally, as well as good causes such as Calderwood House.

Also thanked were Graham Broach who made the stocks; Peter Bradley and Russell May for photographs and Mark Mason for Karaoke Disco.

Thanks also to Iggesunds Paper Board, Tyson Burridge, Mrs Thornton, Peggy Mason, Jean's Flowers and Morrisons.
