More than 700 year six pupils from 23 West Cumbrian schools met with 20 employers at Workington Leisure Centre.
Catering, policing and engineering were among the careers showcased at the event organised by Inspira.
Bertha Priestly, professional adviser at Inspira, said: “It’s a career awareness day to encourage children to think beyond school.
“When they leave primary school there can be a dip in interest and here we want to encourage them to keep up the good work when they go to secondary school.
“The event went well, the children were very engaged. The activities were very hands on because of the age of the children.”
Lisa Ford, who was manning Impact Housing’s stall, said: “We’ve done quite a lot about engagement with young people in the past and it’s about trying to inspire them on what they want to do in the future. Children seemed happy to find out about the different opportunities.”
